The World War One Heritage Project - Summer 2018

Reception and Year 1

Reception and Year 1 spent the summer of 2018 researching about Blackpool's attractions, specifically the Illuminations and Blackpool Tower. They spent 7 weeks learning and designing their pieces of work. These are shown here:

Year 2 and 3

Year 2 and 3 worked together on a case study about Blackpool's history and the Miners' Home building found on the Promenade. The children spent time learning about what the Miners' home was used for and even delved into what the life of a miner was like. Here are the examples of their work:

Year 4

Year 4 had a hugely important case study on learning about all aspects of World War One. They studied the life of a soldier, the causes of the war, the impact at home as well as abroad, the life in the trenches, the countries involved and many other areas. They also created some wonderful letters 'sent from the front-line'. Here are some examples of their work:

Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 had a big task ahead of them. After visiting St. Stephen on-the-Cliffs church and finding the World War One memorial, the children were tasked with discovering as much as they could about the lives of these soldiers. With the help of Ancestry.com and lots of online research they were able to piece together the lives of the fallen soldiers and even discovered that many of them grew up on the streets that they now lived on. Here are some examples of what they achieved:
