- The duty aims to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people.
- The duty applies to the public sector and also to others carrying out public functions.
- The duty applies to all nine areas of discrimination listed in the Equality Act 2010.
At LFS we strive to ensure that all nine areas of discrimination listed in the Equality Act 2010 (known as protected characteristics) underpin any decisions we make regarding our staff, pupils and parents. These nine protected characteristics are:
- gender reassignment
- pregnancy and maternity
- religion or belief
- sexual orientation
- marriage and civil partnership
This ensures that Langdale considers the needs of all individuals in our school - in shaping policy, in delivering services, and in relation to our employees, parents, pupils and visitors. We aim to ensure our pupils have pride in their identity and of those around them, and ensure we foster an inclusive and diverse environment to learn and grow in.
